The X-Wing Starfighter

If machines were eligible for Academy Awards, T-65 X-Wing Starfighter, developed by Incom, would certainly have its trophy case full of them. The X-wing Starfighter is the Rebel Alliance’s mainstay in fighting and defeating the Empire’s Imperial Forces.

Fast, maneuverable, and durable, the X-wing Starfighter wears its battle scars proudly as it returns time and again to fight the forces of the Dark Side armed with laser cannons and proton torpedoes.

During normal flight, the double-layered wings are closed for stability but in a combat situation, the wings open to reveal the true might of the X-wing’s four long-range laser cannons training their sites on the enemy. A pair of proton torpedo launchers, mounted midway up the main space-frame, completes the armaments. Each carries a magazine of three torpedoes that makes the X-wing a formidable opponent in battle. The home and workplace of astromech droids like R2-D2, the X-wing Starfighter has been piloted by the best of the Rebel Alliance including Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles.

The X-wing Starfighter played a pivotal role in the culmination of Starwars: A New Hope when ace flyer Wedge Antilles and Luke Skywalker, along with the heroic Red Squadron, mounted an attack on the Empire’s Death Star. Later, at the Battle of Endor, Wedge Antilles had the option to transfer his Rogue Squadron to newer craft like the A-Wing and B-Wing but remained loyal to the X-wing Starfighter and flying as the Red Group in honor of the pilots who fought in the first Death Star Battle at Yavin. Under the command of Wedge Antilles, the Rogue Squadron was recognized as the ultimate X-wing Starfighter force. At the end of the battle, the rugged X-Wing Starfighter emerged from the wreckage of the Death Star, victorious in celebration of the advent of the New Republic.

Thirteen years later, Incom redesigned the X-wing Starfighter and General Wedge Antilles, still faithful to the venerable starship, ordered that all X-wings were updated to reflect the changes.

The newest innovation in the X-wing Starfighter is the XJ X-wing. Now equipped with a trio of proton torpedo launchers and improved armor, technological advancements in speed and maneuverability make the XJ X-Wing more formidable than ever before while remaining true to the classic T-65 X-Wing that inspired it.
